New Construction

Bowie City Hall and Police Headquarters is the city’s new civic hub, bringing together local government, an emergency command center, and the police. The City of Bowie is a historic yet expanding and vibrant municipality, and the facility drives cooperation between these three sets of occupants in terms of functionality, prominence and visibility.

The building’s connection to the site is enhanced by the building’s sustainable features, including its convenient location near public transportation, green roof, native planting, energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality measures.

Transparency

The new facility celebrates the open accessibility and transparency of city government, as symbolized by the welcoming lobby grand stair and the extensive use of glass and windows throughout the design.

Interior Spaces

The organic shapes inspired by the site are integrated within the interior space. Traditional, modular materials—such as red brick and stone that resonate with the Bowie community—were incorporated into the building’s elegant, smooth forms.

Throughout the process, [Grimm + Parker] was open and flexible to our working and changing needs and priorities.

A Maryland Flower

One of many large pieces of public art in the facility is this imaginative interpretation of the black-eyed susan flower, the state flower of Maryland.

Outside in the facilities's main drive is a large sundial entitled "Bowie Portal Sundial" to represent all of the potential of Bowie's future. G+P coordinated with all artists to incorporate these beautiful pieces of art inside and out.

Closing Thoughts

Transparency was manifested in the design process, bringing together disparate user groups in rich collaboration.
