New Construction

CAT North is the Career and Technology hub for northern Anne Arundel County, serving over 600 students from seven regional high schools.

Each student can select from 23 diverse learning and career experiences in the industries and trades, as well as academic excellence in a variety of honors and college-level programs, organized into six groupings that define CTE Programs for collaboration amongst programs.

All CTE Programs are organized around a central Commons that anchors student activity with space to celebrate student achievement, foster collaborative learning, and allow for large group gatherings.

The Commons is co-located with the multifunction Meeting Space to maximize flexibility as the area in the building where large groups can gather for presentations with audio-visual and data capability.

[Grimm + Parker's] approach to collaborating with our teachers, administrators, business partners, and central office members was exemplary, and they consistently demonstrated their ability to listen, understand, and incorporate our ideas and requirements into the design seamlessly.

Center of Applied Technology North

Each CTE Program has its own character, identity, and content-specific support spaces to operate independently yet maintain multiple opportunities for collaboration between Programs.

Anchoring the new master plan development for a multi-school campus, CAT North is located to welcome cars, buses, and visitors from multiple feeder schools, while linking with the future neighboring high school via a pedestrian-focused promenade.

Closing Thoughts

In addition to strengthening the school-wide community, the design of CAT North strives to raise awareness and increase resources and initiatives that serve the community at large.
