Melanie Hennigan

As President and CEO, Melanie is responsible for fostering the firm’s expertise of architectural design, master planning and interior design. Her over 30 years of design inspiration includes award winning libraries, K-12 schools, collegiate, cultural, civic, recreation, and public safety projects. 

Working collaboratively with clients and communities, Melanie is well known for listening and learning about each client’s needs and aspirations. Melanie works closely with her design team colleagues at G+P to develop thoughtful, client-centric solutions that are custom tailored for each unique project. Her design leadership has helped to guide Grimm + Parker Architects to win more than 200 design awards.

Melanie is a passionate leader who cares deeply about design, education, learning, sustainability, people, the environment, communities and adding value to public projects. She is frequently a resource to local counties seeking advice on planning, design, and budgeting. Appointed by the Governor, she recently retired from the State of Maryland Architectural Review Board, where she served for nearly twenty years. Melanie has also served in the AIA, including two years as the Potomac Valley AIA Chapter President. Melanie has taught architectural studio design at the University of Maryland, College Park. In 2015 she gave the commencement speech at her alma mater and was delighted to connect with recent graduates.

She loves big dogs and has two: a Newfoundland and an Italian Spinone, both of whom keep her busy exploring.
