New Construction

Situated in a prominent location at the corner of Spring Hill Road and Jones Branch Drive, the site for the new five-bay Tysons Fire Station #29 and Bus Transit Center is highly visible, an opportunity to create a landmark which can begin to connect the dots to the current and future Tysons development.

Access to the existing site is limited to the existing signalized site entrance on Jones Branch drive for all vehicles and to bus-only access to and from the Dulles Toll Road. Key drivers in the site design are prioritizing the emergency response from the fire station and providing clear, separate, and safe site circulation for cars, buses, fire trucks, and pedestrians.

Three unique design concepts were prepared as part of the initial feasibility study phase of the project, each with their own unique character and approach to addressing the complex site. Utilizing a campus approach, the massing and architectural character of the buildings were designed in tandem to achieve a cohesive design for the entire site.

The fire station features a gender neutral design for the dormitory, while the Bus Transit Center features a flexible store and lobby space that can be transformed into a polling place or conference space to serve community needs.
