Located on the banks of the Wicomico River, Rivers Edge Apartments and Studio for the Arts provides affordable housing in an idyllic setting, designed with special attention to the needs of those in the disabled community. Aligned with the Eastern Shore’s artistic community, Rivers Edge provides its residents with numerous amenities to inspire creativity. The community’s three buildings create a “village commons” that fronts the river and connects to the River Walk that leads to downtown Salisbury.
The community features a 2,300 square-foot art studio and gallery space outfitted with a mobile stage, ample storage for art supplies, lockers for personal use, an artwork display area, and abundant work space. The building infuses art into every feature such as its aptly named unit plans: Vincent van Gogh, Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, and Leonardo da Vinci.
The community room provides residents with views out to the river and downtown Salisbury through an 18-foot wide glass retractable wall. Residents can host art exhibits and parties in this space while experiencing life along the river. In keeping with the communal spirit, residents are encouraged to lead classes and workshops to share their expertise with the community at large.
We had never considered the concept of bringing together persons with disabilities and artists. What a fantastic idea! Artists residing at Rivers Edge have an excellent opportunity to give back to the community by sharing their gifts with persons with disabilities.
