Forest Glen Affordable Apartments

Originally built in the 1950s, the existing, aging, garden-style apartments became obsolete and cost-prohibitive to rehabilitate. After extensive community engagement and involvement from stakeholders, the County and community experts, three themes have been established for this revitalized neighborhood: Reconnect, Reinvest + Reimagine.

The new Forest Glen Apartments will include 189 affordable units with two exterior courtyards. The project also will include space for residents to enjoy the outdoors, two bike rooms, fitness + business centers, underground parking, and a dog washing station. As well, there is a large community life area that leads to an enclosed tot lot in the adjacent courtyard. The community life/learning center provides after school support for children, and multi-generational programs for its residents.

Beyond the amenities provided to residents of the building, the project also strove to improve the building’s engagement with the community. The project will provide an expansive community lawn that will have large boulders where people can sit, and for children to play on, as well as a courtyard with grills and a garden area for residents to rest, relax, and recharge.
