Amy Upton, AIA, LEED AP BD+C
Principal, Director of Environmental Design
Amy brings 15+ years of experience in the design of public projects that balance sustainable, inspiring and healthy environments with budget, maintenance and operation concerns. As a member of the design team for Great Seneca Creek Elementary School, Maryland’s first LEED Gold certified school, Amy discovered her passion for environmentally-friendly and high performance school design. She has since worked on various LEED, IgCC, and Energy Star K-12 schools, university buildings, recreation centers and libraries, both as a designer and as the firm’s Sustainability Coordinator. She is currently co-project manager for two Net Zero Energy K-8 schools starting construction in Baltimore City, MD.
She regularly leads tours of our “Green” schools, participates in and presents at local and national conferences, and works with clients to better understand how their high performing buildings can be teaching tools. In her role as Director of Environmental Design she emphasizes collaborative design approaches and assists teams in evaluating and improving the environmental performance of their projects firm-wide. Amy leads from a place of passion for Sustainability, captaining our annual Green Apple Day of Service projects, the AIA 2030 Commitment reporting effort, and building ongoing client partnerships around environmental literacy.
