Expanding a Theatrical Community.

The beautifully restored neoclassical Maryland Theatre is the crown jewel of the City of Hagerstown’s Arts and Entertainment District, the expansion will provide the theatre with all of the front-of-house amenities it has been longing for since the tragic fire that ravaged the building in 1974.

The charming grandeur of the new façade and open grand lobby will easily draw visitors in. With the new orchestra and mezzanine lobbies, theatre patrons will have access to an abundance of amenities such as updated concession stands, improved box office, VIP lounge, and additional restrooms.

Keeping connections to the local arts community also played a major role in this project. A bridge and thoughtfully designed walkway connect the original 1915 theater and its new expansion to the adjacent Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. This connection allows students of the Washington County Public School to have access to the rehearsal studio and dressing rooms on the third floor of the building. Theatre artists and various school groups will also have access to this space. At the basement level,  artists will have a gallery to showcase their work and the multi-functional top floor expansion will provide the community with event space to host private weddings, receptions, business functions, and the like – making the new expansion truly an extension of, and to, the Hagerstown community.
