Creating new traditions.
The legacy of Linganore High School has a long-standing history in the community, so G+P paid careful attention to retaining what makes this community so special when designing the new replacement school.
The school’s Main Street and gymnasium entrance include collages that capture the essence of the school’s history. These murals overlay photographs from the previous school’s graduations, athletic competitions and significant events, relaying to the students that their school has a deeper connection in their community than is evident from the newness of the building. In addition, relics of the former school, including portions of the gym floor, are displayed in museum-type cases below the central stairs on Main Street.
The school’s plan is based on a cluster approach, with academic zones—which include Science, Humanities, Arts and the 9th Grade Academy—radiating from a bright, warm public Main Street that connects the gymnasium, auditorium, media center, and cafeteria. The public-use spaces can be separated into easily secured zones with independent entrances.
